We had such a positive experience working with Myla during my first labor: she was a comforting, helpful, warm presence. For my second birth, I was a bit anxious to think that things might be different or I could encounter an unexpected complication, so I wanted to feel secure in case we were to face some of the things you can’t quite prepare for. Dan and I felt it would be great to have an additional support person should questions arise and to help provide perspective if difficult decisions needed to be made. We wanted to create a sense of ownership and positivity about whatever happened during labor and birth, so we chose Myla as our doula the second time around as well.
One of the things I appreciate about Myla is that she’s not only calm herself; she also has an ability to calm others. Her soothing energy changes the tone in the room. Beyond that, her actual physical support was very helpful! She has a sensitive way of making suggestions – helping me into different methods of pain relief without or being obtrusive or taking me out of the moment – and it all seemed to flow very naturally. When I was 10 cm, and my doctor allowed time to labor down, Myla talked me through in a steady gentle voice and helped me exist with the physical sensations I was experiencing. Instead of being overwhelmed with discomfort of my baby’s head coming down, I was able to focus and stay connected to what was happening in a positive way.
